Full course description
2 PD Hours
Attend this session to learn how to teach writing skills using a consistent process that can be applied to individual paragraphs, multi-paragraph compositions, and essays.
In this session, participants will learn a five-step, sequential model for teaching writing skills that incorporates modeling and teaching metacognition throughout each step. This process can be applied to paragraph, multi-paragraph, and essay-level writing assignments across all subject areas. Along with an introduction to the expository writing process, the session will include techniques for oral rehearsal as well as hands-on materials to support students with framing paragraphs and essays. The role of metacognition in fostering student independence and resilience will also be discussed.
The strategies presented are helpful for a variety of students, including English learners and students with language-based learning disabilities (LBLD).
