Based on the Massachusetts Professional Standards for Teachers of Adult ESOL, this session explores the principles and practices of Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Teaching (CRST) within the context of adult ESOL education. After participants complete a short, self-exploratory exercise about identity and culture, the facilitator will summarize elements of CRST in ESOL and supporting research. Most of the session will then be devoted to exploring tools, resources, and strategies that participants can immediately apply in their classrooms. There will be time for participants to discuss application in their particular settings.

- Explain why CRST is important to adult English learners
- Take steps to creating a more Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Teaching practice
