Full course description
1.5 PD Hrs
Developing a robust understanding of fractions, decimals, and percents is a major focus of CALM. This 90-minute virtual workshop will introduce you to how these concepts develop in learners, and why CALM begins with benchmarks, easily visualized fractions, decimals, and percents that can help learners estimate and understand the size of less familiar numbers that they encounter. You will participate in a CALM activity that involves virtual fraction stations, and reflect on how benchmarks (and tools that go with them, like number lines) can help students build a solid foundation for working with fractions, decimals, and percents. In addition, CALM support workshops are a time to meet and share ideas with other teachers. Participants will also have the opportunity to schedule one-on-one follow-up coaching sessions with the facilitator, if desired.
While registrants are not required to attend a CALM Orientation and/or participate in the asynchronous CALM Introduction to participate in the CALM Support Series, we strongly encourage them to do so. The Support Series builds from the prior knowledge gained in the other CALM offerings.
CALM professional development may be bundled to receive Professional Development Points (PDPs). Learn more here.
